East Providence Kicks Off the First of Many Pride Events in RI

On Saturday, June 1st, East Providence was the first community to honor Pride month with a Flag Raising, Parade and Celebration, complete with entertainers, vendors, and food trucks.

EastProv Hospitality had the pleasure of covering the ceremony and celebrations. The weather could not have been better as people of all backgrounds gathered on the grounds of city hall to support a ceremony honoring equality and acceptance for our LGBTQIA+ community.

Mayor Bob DaSilva opened the ceremony as he welcomed all who attended and thanked the volunteers of the Pride Advisory Group for their efforts in organizing the events of the day. The mayor continued with a wonderful message setting a positive tone for what would prove to be a wonderful day for all involved.

The ceremony included an incredible presentation by a young keynote speaker, her story was beyond moving, inspiring and beautiful. The ceremony concluded with the raising of the Pride flag, followed by a fun and entertaining parade that stepped off at 11:00am as it made its way from city hall to Pierce Memorial Field, where vendors, entertainers and food trucks awaited.

The festive and lively parade included local members of the New England Witches Guild dressed for the occasion while putting on quite a show as well as a whimsical street band called the Extraordinary Rendition Band that was beyond entertaining.

EastProv Hospitality’s resident photographer, Kerry Quinn of Kerry Quinn Photography was on hand to capture some of the ceremony, fun & shenanigans!
