EastProv Hospitality is pleased to announce a new monthly blog series launching in November 2025, written by Chef Bill Walker, Culinary Arts Instructor at the East Providence High School Career & Technical Center (EPHSCTC). Chef Walker is a mentor, educator, and seasoned culinary professional whose passion for food extends far beyond the plate. His background in both restaurant kitchens and culinary education has shaped a teaching philosophy rooted in patience, skill-building, creativity, and genuine care for his students.
Bill received a formal culinary education, but his journey began long before the classroom. He grew up working in a small family-owned Italian restaurant in Queens, NY, where he discovered his love for cooking and “the wonderful sense of camaraderie that comes with working in that environment.” He fondly refers to the kitchen as “The Island of Misfit Toys,” describing it as the perfect place for passionate, hard-working people who may not fit into a traditional work setting. Bill went on to earn an AOS in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor’s in Foodservice Management from Johnson & Wales University, later returning to complete a Master’s in Culinary Education. Over the past two decades, he has taught high school Culinary Arts, managed a practicum property for Johnson & Wales, and served as Executive Chef at both Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Boston and Salve Regina University.
The monthly series, titled Grace Under Pressure, will offer readers an inside look at the EPHSCTC Culinary Program—a place where young talent is encouraged to learn, experiment, and grow. Through his writing, Chef Walker will share the real day-to-day stories of guiding students through the culinary world, from developing techniques and kitchen confidence to discovering their own voices and styles.
Along the way, he will reflect on his own experience as a chef and instructor, offering insights into the challenges and joys that come with life in both professional and educational kitchens. Readers can also look forward to culinary tips, personal anecdotes, and thoughtful observations about what it means to work—and thrive—in an industry defined by creativity, resilience, and passion.
The East Providence community has long taken pride in its talent, and Chef Walker plays a key role in shaping the next generation of culinary professionals who will contribute to our local restaurants, bakeries, cafés, hospitality businesses, and beyond. His writing will celebrate not only the craft of cooking, but also the people and stories behind it.
We look forward to sharing the first installment of Grace Under Pressure on Monday, November 10th, right here at EastProv Hospitality, and we invite our readers to follow along each month as we highlight the heart of culinary learning happening right in our own city.
