EastProv Hospitality Spotlight: The Sensory Stylist — Where Comfort, Care & Confidence Comes to You

At EastProv Hospitality, we love celebrating local businesses that bring care, comfort, and creativity to our community — and The Sensory Stylist is one that truly stands out.

Founded by Kristin L. Schober, The Sensory Stylist is a mobile hair-styling service that serves clients across Rhode Island. What makes it so special is its focus on individuals who often find traditional salons overwhelming or inaccessible — including people with disabilities, sensory sensitivities, and neurodivergent needs.

Instead of asking clients to adapt to a busy salon environment, The Sensory Stylist brings a calm, patient, and personalized haircare experience directly into the comfort of their homes. For many families, that simple change has made all the difference — transforming what was once a stressful experience into a positive and empowering one.

Kristin brings more than twenty years of experience to her work, combining her professional background as a stylist with her years of caregiving for adults with developmental disabilities. Her compassion and understanding shine through in every visit, whether she’s giving a first haircut to a child on the autism spectrum or offering a gentle trim to an adult with mobility challenges. Her mission is simple but powerful:

“To empower confidence through sensory-friendly, personalized hair care.”

Kristin’s work has earned the admiration of local families and professionals alike, including those who specialize in supporting children with sensory and developmental needs. One such partner, Nicole Quigley, owner of Family Behavior Solutions, Inc. in East Providence, shared her experience:

“As the owner of Family Behavior Solutions, I’m always looking to partner with other organizations that share our mission and values. Our company works primarily with children with autism and related disabilities in East Providence, RI. Kristin came to our location and set up shop — she was kind, collaborative, and truly passionate about the care she provides. We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with her to support our children in the future.”

Her dedication goes far beyond her business. In 2025, Kristin’s advocacy helped lead to the passage of a new Rhode Island law allowing licensed professionals to provide at-home hair and nail services for individuals living with disabilities or sensory sensitivities. Her efforts not only enhance access for her own clients but also paves the way for other stylists to make inclusive care part of their practice statewide.

While The Sensory Stylist is best known for its inclusive, sensory-friendly approach, they also offer themed kids’ party packages — like the Birthday Princess Package, which includes gentle styling, a free tiara, and a goodie bag — open to all children, not just those with special needs. Whether it’s a birthday, milestone, or just a fun day of pampering, every child can enjoy the same caring, creative touch that makes The Sensory Stylist so unique.

The Sensory Stylist provides a much-needed service by bringing compassionate, sensory-friendly haircare and styling services directly to those who need them most. With Rhode Island now approving in-home services for individuals with disabilities and sensory sensitivities, there’s never been a better time to help spread awareness.

Join EastProv Hospitality in spreading the word — share The Sensory Stylist with someone whose life could be brightened by their thoughtful, inclusive care.
