One Year In: Centreville Bank Stadium Has Quickly Become RI’s New Gathering Place for Sports, Culture, and Community

In just one year, Centreville Bank Stadium has quickly established itself as one of Rhode Island’s premier destinations for sports and live events.

Since opening on May 3, 2025, the 10,500+ capacity, 69,000-square-foot venue has welcomed nearly 220,000 fans and hosted more than 70 events, including 34 professional and collegiate sporting contests across seven leagues and three sports. From the outset, the stadium has become more than a venue—it has become a year-round gathering place for the region.

Much of the early momentum was driven by the inaugural season of Rhode Island FC, which introduced fans to the stadium and helped define its identity as a new home for high-energy competition. But year one extended far beyond one club.

Brown University and the University of Rhode Island brought collegiate rivalries to the pitch, including the URI vs. Brown Football Governor’s Cup. The stadium also hosted Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches, a 2025 Major League Rugby Championship, and an international soccer friendly, alongside more than 40 additional private and community events that filled out a diverse and active calendar.

“When we opened our doors on May 3, 2025, our goal was to build a venue that all of Rhode Island could take pride in – and in just one year, we have surpassed every expectation,” said Centreville Bank Stadium General Manager Paul Byrne. “From soccer and rugby to football, women’s sports, and lacrosse, we’ve created a dynamic, year-round destination.”

Now, attention turns to year two, which is already shaping up to be even bigger. Upcoming highlights include the Premier Lacrosse League and Women’s Lacrosse League Opening Weekend (May 15–17), the venue’s first comedy show featuring Bill Burr (June 12), and the Island Rhodes Music Festival (August 15–16). Rhode Island FC, URI football, and Boston Legacy Football Club will continue anchoring a growing sports calendar, with more announcements still to come.

The stadium has also earned national recognition for its design and sustainability, including a 2026 Play to Zero Award from the Green Sports Alliance for its 100% electric infrastructure, as well as being named Best New or Renovated Sports Venue by SportsTravel Magazine.

For Rhode Island FC Co-Founder and Chairman Brett Johnson, the impact has been both measurable and meaningful.

“I strongly believe in the social and economic impact of sport, and this first year has proven exactly that. What we built here is not just a stadium,” Johnson said. “It is a home for Rhode Island.”

Beyond the numbers and accolades, the stadium’s first year tells a larger story—one of momentum, identity, and community pride. It has quickly become a regional gathering point, drawing fans from across New England and helping elevate Pawtucket as a growing destination for major events.

As year two begins, that momentum shows no signs of slowing.
