EastProv Hospitality had the pleasure of covering the public unveiling of the newly renovated East Providence Animal Control Facility on Saturday, July 25, welcoming members of the community for a first look at the transformed shelter and an opportunity to meet many of the animals in their care—some awaiting reunification with their families and others hoping to find a loving forever home.
The community open house invited visitors to tour the updated facility, learn about the improvements designed to enhance animal care, and spend time with the shelter’s current canine and feline residents.
As visitors toured the facility, they had the opportunity to meet many of the shelter’s canine and feline residents—each with a unique personality and their own story. It was a wonderful reminder that every adoption begins with a simple visit and an open heart.
The newly renovated facility represents a significant investment in the future of East Providence Animal Control, improving the environment for the animals in their care, the dedicated staff who serve them, and the families who visit looking to welcome a new companion into their lives.
The nearly $477,000 renovation project was made possible through a combination of city general and capital funds, along with allocated American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. The improvements were designed to create a safer, cleaner, more efficient, and welcoming facility for everyone who enters its doors.
A Look at the Improvements
The extensive renovation project included many upgrades throughout the facility, including:
🐾 Improved Animal Spaces
New dog play areas, upgraded kennels, improved drainage, durable flooring, and updated fencing provide safer and more comfortable spaces for the animals.
🧼 Enhanced Cleanliness and Sanitation
New interior drains, epoxy kennel flooring, updated plumbing, a commercial dishwasher, and new laundry equipment help staff maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
🌡️ A More Comfortable Facility
A new HVAC system, improved air circulation, updated doors, and additional building improvements create a better environment for both animals and staff.
📦 Expanded Storage and Organization
New cabinetry, storage areas, freezers, and shelving provide improved organization for food, supplies, medications, and equipment.
🌳 A More Welcoming Community Space
New landscaping, trees, greenery, ADA improvements, and updated public areas help create a more inviting experience for families visiting the shelter.
These improvements, along with many additional upgrades throughout the facility, represent a significant investment in the future of East Providence Animal Control.
While visitors admired the facility’s many improvements, it was the four-legged residents who truly stole the show. Every wagging tail, gentle purr, and curious glance served as a reminder that the shelter’s greatest success isn’t measured by new floors, updated kennels, or modern equipment—it is measured by every animal that receives compassionate care and a safe, comfortable place to stay while waiting to be reunited with their family, and every animal patiently waiting for a loving forever home.
The renovated facility is an important investment, but the community’s continued support through adoption, volunteering, donations, and advocacy will always be its greatest asset.
EastProv Hospitality is proud to highlight the important work being done by the East Providence Animal Control team and looks forward to sharing future community stories that showcase the people, organizations, and initiatives making a difference in East Providence.
