The American Sign Museum is now the proud owner of an original Benny’s sign. The Cincinnati, Ohio-based museum received the vintage neon sign in early September. The sign was in use from 1966 to 1989 at the Benny’s store formerly located on Route 2 in Warwick, RI.
In a social media post from the company, the museum noted, “The Museum got a special delivery last week from Rhode Island! This 1960s sign represented a chain that Benjamin Bromberg started in 1924 that grew to 32 stores in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts by the time of its closure in 2017.” “Though the sign comes from the smallest state in the U.S., the sign is a big one at 6 x 20 ft and likely weighing between 800 – 1000 pounds!”
The American Sign Museum promotes sign preservation and restoration by showcasing nearly 100 years of signage. They preserve and protect American history, paying tribute to the artistry and craftsmanship of the past. Their collection highlights an often-overlooked part of our culture that is often hidden from our daily lives.
The American Sign Museum is the largest and most diverse public sign museum in the country.
